Japan’s Cooperation for ASEAN’s Decarbonization -Towards The ASEAN-Japan GST Report-

Organizer : Ministry of Environment, Japan

Co-organizer : Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES)・National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES)

Abstract

To support a steady transition to decarbonised societies in ASEAN and other Asian countries, Japan has undertaken the following initiatives:
• Supporting development of NDCs and LTS by using the Asia-Pacific Integrated Model (AIM).
• Enhancing corporate transparency via the Partnership to Transparency in Co-Innovation (PaSTI), including introduction of measurement and reporting systems.
• Assisting in formulation of decarbonisation policies through support for BTRs and greenhouse gas inventory development.
Building on these efforts, Japan, in collaboration with ASEAN countries, is initiating the development of the ASEAN–Japan GST Report. This report will articulate an Asia-specific model of economic growth through decarbonisation, drawing from the above initiatives, and is intended to be reflected in the GST at COP33, with the goal of establishing it as international reference.
This seminar will officially announce the initiation of this report and call for the cooperation of ASEAN countries in its development. It will also highlight some key progresses achieved this year in Japan’s collaboration with ASEAN countries.
