Forests are crucial in addressing climate change and biodiversity loss, serving as habitats, absorbing CO2, and reducing disaster risks. Their degradation, therefore, accelerates emissions and ecological decline. Global discussions, grounded in the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Framework, now emphasize integrated approaches: In 2024, Japan launched its “Transition Strategies toward Nature Positive Economy,” stressing collaboration among governments, businesses, finance, investors, consumers, and local authorities.
This seminar will showcase domestic and international efforts to conserve, restore, and create biodiversity, while exploring how ecosystem services can address social and economic challenges. The aim is to shift perspectives from seeing nature-positive action as a cost to recognizing it as a driver of sustainable growth based on natural capital. With GREEN×EXPO 2027 in Yokohama, Japan, the event seeks to strengthen international cooperation and foster changes in social awareness and behavior toward a nature-positive economy.
