Nature-based Solutions (NbS) aim to address social challenges by harnessing the functions of sound natural ecosystems. NbS can provide integrated approaches that deliver cross-sectoral benefits, including climate change mitigation and adaptation, disaster risk reduction, resource circulation, revitalization of regional economies, management of zoonoses, and human health. They encompass measures such as green infrastructure and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA).
NbS are expected to serve as integrated solutions for overcoming the three global crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, and international efforts including the UNEA6 synergy resolution are calling for further promotion of collective action. Actively positioning initiatives within the framework of NbS is crucial for fostering social understanding and advancing collaboration and partnerships.
This seminar will feature prominent examples of NbS, share challenges identified through practical implementation, and discuss key elements needed for the sustainable deployment of NbS, including the applicability of practices across different regions.
